Dungeons & Dragons Virtual RPG Adventure – Ages 10-15 $95 a Session
This is an introduction and starter adventure to the wildly popular role-playing game! This Club will meet Monthly or even Bi-Monthly if there is interest. Sessions will most likely be played on Friday or Saturday evenings, but I may be open to adjustment to work with players schedules when possible. Each session will be run for 3hrs for $95. Space will be limited to 4 players per group, to keep player interaction more engaging. If I get more interest then I will start another group. Recommended median age for this group is 11 to 14 years of age, but if there is enough interest I can group compatible ages together. Not recommended for kids under the age of 10, due to the complexity of the rules and tech skills required.
This email is sent to gather interest, set up our group, and schedule our first session. Looking to start running this campaign from the beginning of February through the end of April. Again space is limited, so act fast.
The first session will be what is called in the gaming world, a Zero Session. A Zero Session gets players introduced to the world, learn rules, controls, and step by step create their own custom character. This session will happen through zoom meeting, so I can share my screen to help them visually while constructing characters, and navigating the roll20 controls. It is the stuff that must happen before the story may progress, hence the name. The next session would launch the main story arc of the campaign.
How will we meet?
The club will meet online using the Roll20 online gaming platform. It is free for them to join, but requires them to create a user profile. I also will require them to be on a computer, and the Google Chrome browser works best. Unfortunately, tablets don’t work well with its controls. This platform allows us to see maps, hear music and sound effects tokens, and have video and or audio correspondence.
Also the kids can use the resources on D&D Beyond to create a character and control their character’s action, and skill rolls, etc. D&D Beyond will play on a tablet or mobile device and has a mobile app version that works well. This is also free to use, but some options and resources require in app purchases, but are not necessary. Also both Roll20 and D&D Beyond can work together using a Chrome Extension Beyond 20
Ultimately using both programs will make learning and playing the game easy, creative and fun! The goal is to provide a safe, fun, and creative social environment for kids to express themselves. Especially in a world where real-time social interactions are increasingly difficult to provide for our kids. I will also be offering summer camps of this nature at Winchester Thurston this year. So, if your kid is interested in starting here, and then continuing on to an in-person week long daily adventure, they will have a head start and can use their already experienced characters.
